Comics: Character Design & World Building (Grades 9-12)

This course will help students develop and strengthen their characters and the worlds that they inhabit. Examples from comics, video games, film and television will be included in lectures. Through exercises and projects that involve idea generation, research, and observational drawing students will learn how to create solid foundations for their characters and worlds, no matter what type of work they plan to place them in. Students will publish a mini-portfolio at the end of the class that will include concept sketches, character turnarounds, sample environments, and other work produced during the week.

*Pre-College Workshops begin Monday morning at 9am, and then 10am for each day after. Each morning, Tues-Fri, 9am-10am is designed as an optional "Open Studio" time for students to work on their projects. The Teaching Instructor will be present to prep and set up and available for guidance and questions. The workshop will then formally begin at 10am Tues-Friday.
